Hey everyone! I'm on a mission to find some ultra-lightweight Windows operating systems to breathe new life into an old laptop. My laptop has 8GB of RAM, but I'm also trying to help out a friend who is stuck with just 2GB. They've made it clear they want to stick with Windows instead of switching to Linux, which I've suggested a few times already.
I've heard about a couple of versions from a Latin content creator named TomexOS that run on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, but I've noticed some mixed reviews in the Spanish-speaking community. There are concerns over security risks since these are third-party builds, and I'm curious about their stability as well.
If anyone's tried these out or has suggestions for other minimal Windows builds—official or unofficial—that don't compromise on security and are usable, I'd really appreciate your input! Thanks!

Have you considered Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC or Windows 11 LTSC? They’re designed to be lightweight and are supported with security updates for several years. Plus, a useful tool like Chris Titus Tech's Windows Utility can help optimize the system further while minimizing resource use. Just a heads up, using older versions like Windows 7 or 8 may require a lot of manual patching and won't get updates for long, so keep that in mind!
Honestly, all modified Windows versions can be pretty risky! I strongly recommend sticking with official Windows builds and optimizing them to the max. If your friend is okay with disabling Windows Defender, that can free up some RAM, which might help a lot with running programs on a 2GB system. Just remember, Windows 10 64-bit is really the minimum to consider for that amount of RAM.
Is there any chance he could upgrade his RAM? With only 2GB, he might be able to run something antique like Windows 95, though that might be a stretch! Just saying, it’s quite outdated.
