Hey everyone, I need some help choosing an operating system for my old PC. Here are the specs: Intel Q8200 processor, ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card, and 4GB of DDR2 RAM running at 800MHz. Since I won't have my main computer with me for a while, I'd like to make this 'grandpa' machine more usable. I gave Linux Mint XFCE a shot because it was highly recommended, but it ended up being quite slow and didn't perform well on my setup. I don't really have time to experiment with different systems, so I'm hoping someone can suggest a good option that won't require too much tinkering. Thanks!

Have you thought about trying Puppy Linux? It's super lightweight and designed for older machines, so it might give you a better experience than Mint. Also, if you’re still using a traditional HDD, that could be what's slowing you down. If possible, upgrading to an SSD could make a world of difference! Just check out some YouTube videos for installation tips if you decide to go that route.
I totally get not wanting to spend money on an SSD you might not use later. If you're leaning towards Windows, you could try Windows 7 or 8. Just be aware that support for those is pretty limited now, especially for gaming. Windows 10 might run better than Mint, but it could still be sluggish on older hardware.
