Hey everyone! I'm a first-time poster and could really use some advice. My birthday is coming up, and I'm feeling the need to upgrade my laptop since it's starting to slow down. I'm a web developer who uses Docker, and my projects are growing. My senior has mentioned that the 8GB of RAM isn't going to cut it anymore. Plus, I've been wanting to jump back into PC gaming, but my laptop doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card.
I'm curious about what CPU I should choose, AMD or Intel. Also, what graphics card would be suitable for playing indie roguelikes and League of Legends (I know, I know). Is 64GB of RAM too much or just right? I was considering buying an older prebuilt PC and upgrading it myself to save some cash, but I'm also tempted by the idea of building my first PC from scratch. I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the suggestions on YouTube, so any general thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Just a heads-up, I plan to run Linux as my OS, even if that complicates gaming a bit. Looking forward to your input!

If you're unsure about AMD or Intel, just go with AMD, especially for gaming. Intel isn't as good right now unless you're into heavy productivity tasks.
For indie games and League of Legends, any mid-range GPU will do just fine since those games aren't very demanding.
As for RAM, 64GB is overkill for gaming—32GB is more than enough.
Regarding prebuilt systems, just make sure to avoid corporate models since they often have parts that you can't upgrade easily. Build your own if you feel up for it! It's a fun project.
For your needs, I’d definitely recommend the AMD Ryzen 7950X. That should handle everything perfectly. And honestly, 64GB of RAM is way more than enough—32GB would suffice for gaming and development tasks.
As for a graphics card, if you're looking to save some money, you might want to consider a 4070 or even a 5070 if you can stretch your budget a bit. Just steer clear of Intel Arc; they're not great for what you want to do.
