Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for a mid-range laptop specifically for running Linux. I'm particularly interested in models that come with AMD processors. I'm not really sure where to start, so any recommendations or tips to help me out would be greatly appreciated!

Framework and System76 are really good options if you want something new. If gaming isn't a priority, I recommend going for a used business laptop like the Dell Latitude, Lenovo ThinkPad, or HP EliteBook. They're designed to last and usually play well with Linux.

Defining 'decent' and 'mid-range' actually helps. I bought a ThinkPad T495s with an AMD Ryzen 7 about half a year ago, and it performs really well. I’d say aim for at least 16GB of RAM and a 250GB SSD for a smooth experience.

By mid-range, I mean somewhere in the $500 to $800 price range, and I'm looking for decent specs to run some software, nothing too demanding.

If you don’t need a powerful GPU, consider buying a used ThinkPad. You can often find one for around 200€ (or even cheaper in the US) that has a quad-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a decent 1080p screen. They’re solid machines for running Linux!
