Hey everyone! I work for a telecom company and we're in the market for some rugged laptops, particularly Toughbooks. I've been in IT for over 10 years, but I've never actually used one! I'd love to hear your suggestions on where I can purchase one. Ideally, we're looking for a 2-in-1 model that can spin around (not just detachable), needs to support 5G, and has an all-day battery life. Leasing is preferable for us due to budget concerns. Thanks in advance!

Panasonic Toughbooks are considered the gold standard for rugged laptops. They actually offer a list of approved suppliers where you can buy them. If you're looking for semi-rugged options, they can save you some money while still meeting many requirements. But if you're needing something truly tough, like for outdoor conditions, you might have to go full rugged—it often comes down to what your real needs are!
If you're looking for Toughbooks, Panasonic is the way to go. They're the original makers of Toughbook laptops and they still make them today. You might also want to check out Getac; they’re quite a player in the rugged laptop scene now. Dell has some rugged options too, which could be ideal if you're already using their equipment. Just be prepared, these rugged models will usually be a bit heavier and pricier because of the extra engineering that goes into making them durable.
Have you looked at the Dell Pro Rugged line? They used to be the Latitude rugged series and might be something to consider. I noticed that they’re generally a lot cheaper compared to Panasonic and Getac. If anyone has experience with them, I'd love some feedback! I also thought about using a Surface Pro Snapdragon with an IP-rated case as an alternative.
I’ve seen the Dell Latitude models too, and they seem pretty robust for the price. Just make sure they meet the specific rugged specs you need!
Consider going through your preferred vendor for purchases; we've bought rugged laptops through suppliers like Sofcat and Insight. Don't forget to check other brands too; Dell has some hardened laptops that might be good alternatives and could integrate better with your existing setups.
For options, you can check out the official Dell UK page for rugged laptops and the Panasonic Toughbook site. Just a heads up, some models are detachable rather than truly 2-in-1, so be careful when selecting. Also, if you're leaning towards leasing, you might have to explore external financing, then sell when it’s paid off!

Funny enough, that’s exactly my use case! I need something that can handle heavy rain while I'm out in the field.
