Looking for Router Recommendations to Replace My Old One

I'm currently using a Netgear Nighthawk AC2600 that's been serving me well for about 8 years, but it's nearing the end of its service life. I'm considering replacing it with the Nighthawk RS300 or RS200, but I'm unsure which would be suitable without being overkill. I stream on 2 TVs daily, use an iPad, 2 phones, several smart devices, and have a wired setup for my PS5 and PC. My internet speed is 1 gigabit via fiber. Any thoughts or recommendations on routers or brands would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been using a similar Nighthawk model for years. As long as it still meets your needs, there's no rush to upgrade unless you need better range or speed. Just keep an eye on security updates.

If your current router is working fine, it might be best to stick with it for now. However, keep in mind that it won't receive firmware updates anymore, which can pose a security risk. You could look into flashing OpenWRT or DD-WRT to extend its lifespan and add features.

That makes sense! I’m wary about security, so I'll definitely explore those options before deciding to upgrade.

If it’s up to your current demands and isn’t posing security risks, keeping it is wise. Router replacements generally make sense only if you’re facing equipment compatibility or significant improvements in performance.

I think if you’re looking at the RS200 or RS300, consider what devices you have. The RS300 offers a third 6 GHz band, which is great for newer WiFi 6E or WiFi 7 devices, but if congestion isn’t an issue for you on 5 GHz, the RS200 might be enough. Just make sure it meets all your streaming needs!

Got it, I’ll check what devices I have that support the newer bands before I buy.
