Looking for TeamViewer Alternatives After Frustrating Experience

Years ago, I purchased a "lifetime" license for TeamViewer, starting with version 5 premium. I liked it because I could upgrade each year, but I stopped at version 12. Nowadays, I only use it to connect to my home computers unattended, like my laptops and home server. Recently, I received an email stating that my version 12 license will expire in December 2025 and will no longer function. I feel frustrated as TeamViewer's switch to a subscription model has been burdensome, with constant emails and calls pushing me to upgrade, which I found insulting. I'm now on the lookout for an alternative that allows easy access to at least five computers without the associated headaches. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I found Anydesk to be pretty reliable too. It’s a cheaper alternative and gets the job done without the TeamViewer drama. I've used it for a while now, and I'm happy with it!

For a free option, you might want to look into Chrome Remote Desktop. It’s straightforward for personal use and doesn’t come with those annoying upgrade prompts.

Yeah! I've been using that for a while; it’s simple and does what I need.

I just started trying it out as well! So far, it seems to work smoothly.

TeamViewer let me down too, a long time ago. We ended up using ScreenConnect and it works fine for us. It's not as cheap as some options, but we found it reliable for our needs.

I get that! ScreenConnect is a personal favorite for remote support!

ScreenConnect is good, but my experience has shown mixed reviews from others. Worth a trial though!

I switched to RustDesk because I wanted a self-hosted solution. It's reliable, and being open-source, it feels like a fresher alternative to TeamViewer. You can spin up a cheap VPS and run it via Docker for automatic updates. Definitely worth considering!

Yeah, RustDesk is solid! More and more people are looking for open-source options in remote access tools.

I also went with RustDesk after TeamViewer's policy changes. It’s decent for personal use!
