I'm considering refreshing my gaming setup since it's been ten years since I last looked into what's good and what's not. I'd love help figuring out which parts of my system are still solid and where I could improve without breaking the bank! Here are my current specs:
- CPU: Core i7 9700k running at 3.60 GHz (8 cores)
- RAM: 2x 16GB DDR4 PC4-21300, 2666MHz
- GPU: GeForce RTX 3090
- PSU: EVGA 850 g5
- Storage: 1TB Samsung SSD (plus an M.2 drive)
The rig is based on an old model, but I've upgraded most components except for the motherboard, CPU, case, and AIO cooling over time. I'm honestly a bit worried about swapping out the cooling. I mainly use this machine for Substance Painter and tinkering with Unity for VRChat, along with playing popular games like Monster Hunter and Dark Souls. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your CPU is still pretty powerful, and your GPU is excellent! If you're considering an upgrade, keep in mind that switching to a CPU that supports DDR5 RAM can get really expensive right now. You might not need an upgrade just yet!

Do you think moving everything to a new case and cooling would be a big hassle?
