Looking to Upgrade My GPU from a 1070—Need Advice!

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of upgrading my build which has been around for over 5 years. I currently have an X570-E motherboard and a Ryzen 3900X CPU with 32GB of DDR4 RAM. My existing GPU is a 1070 and I'm noticing some serious frame rate drops while playing Diablo 4 and WoW, and I feel like I'm lagging behind in technology. I'm considering whether it's okay to stick with PCIe 4.0 for my needs, and while I'm leaning towards yes, I feel a bit overwhelmed by the GPU choices available right now. I'd prefer to just upgrade the GPU rather than replace everything else for now. Any recommendations? Thanks!

What’s your budget for the new GPU? If you can go with a used RTX 3060 Ti or 3070, it would provide a huge performance boost for you!

I'd like to keep it under $500, so I guess I have plenty of options.

The 1070 was solid back in the day but it's pretty outdated now. Just aim for the best GPU you can get within your budget. If you're looking around $300, the 5060 is a decent pick, especially with DLSS 4.5 if you're gaming at 1080p. If you go up to $400, definitely consider the 9060XT 16GB.

I’m actually building a new PC with a similar setup: X570, 3900X, and 32GB DDR4. I upgraded from a 2080 Super to a 5070 Ti last year, and it was totally worth it. Your current combo is still strong; just upgrading the GPU would be more than enough.

Don't overthink it! A used 3080 Ti pops up on marketplaces for about $400 and gives you performance comparable to a 3090—great value for your upgrade.

Honestly, even PCIe 3.0 is sufficient for most use cases. Just grab a new GPU and see how that performs for you. You can always upgrade the rest of your setup later if needed.
