Looking to Upgrade to PC from Console – Is This Deal Worth It?

I'm considering making the leap from my Xbox Series X to a gaming PC, and I found a listing on Facebook Marketplace that's got me thinking. The seller is offering a high-end gaming PC for $1700, claiming it's in 'like new' condition and has a warranty. Here are the specs: Intel i9-10900KF, MSI RTX 5070 12GB (brand new), 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD NVME, and it runs Windows 11. I'm also interested in dabbling in game development with Unity and Unreal Engine. Is this a good price for these specs? What should I ask the seller to ensure I'm making a safe purchase?

It's definitely a rip-off. You can find newer parts and better deals on sites like Newegg or Amazon. The CPU is a bit outdated, and DDR4 RAM is kind of behind the times now with DDR5 being the standard. You're better off getting a whole new PC with a warranty.

Thanks for the heads up, that's super helpful!

Just FYI, I spent $4700 on my setup with a 5090! So $1700 is decent, but the specs here don't justify that price given the age.

Thanks for putting it into perspective!

Honestly, for that price, you should buy a pre-built PC from a reputable source or build your own. The marketplace can be sketchy with scams, and dropping that much on a used rig isn't worth the risk. Stick with trusted retailers!

Thank god I asked y'all before making a purchase!

$1700 feels steep for that build. The i9-10900KF is older now, and the RTX 5070 isn’t exactly a top-tier card anymore. You might want to steer clear and aim for something with a newer generation CPU and better GPU. You might even get a decent warranty if you go new.

Don't trust Facebook Marketplace for such a hefty price. You can get a prebuilt system with much better specs, like a Ryzen 7 X3D with an RTX 5080, for around $2400 or even less sometimes. Always look for warranties when spending big.
