Managing the Recovery Partition on Windows Server 2025 after Update KB5063878

Hey folks, I'm dealing with a frustrating problem on Windows Server 2025 post-update KB5063878. We recently relocated our Recovery Partition (1 GB) to the start of the C: drive, and I made sure all the necessary registry adjustments were in place for it to function properly. The idea was to retain it for emergencies while allowing smooth extension of the C: drive. However, after applying this update, Windows messed things up by creating a new Recovery Partition at the end of the C: drive, which completely scrapped our setup and added a bunch of extra work to fix it. So, I'm curious: how do you manage the Recovery Partition on Windows Servers? Do you leave it as is, remove it, or do you have strategies to avoid these issues after updates?

Honestly, I usually leave the Recovery Partition alone unless there's a solid reason to move it. Windows updates love to reset whatever you've done, so moving it is almost always going to create headaches like this. If you really need to relocate it, I recommend keeping a detailed record of every registry and partition change you make, taking full disk backups before updates, and preparing for the possibility that some updates will recreate the partition. For most setups, the best practice is to just leave it in its default location and rely on system imaging or external backups for recovery. Trying to outsmart Windows often backfires!

Exactly! If the recovery partition is at the end of the disk, it complicates extending C:. You have to move it before you can utilize that free space. I’d rather allocate enough space for C: from the start without dealing with extra measures, sticking to standardized disk setups.
