Managing Windows 10 Extended Security Updates: Any Tips?

With Windows 10 approaching its end of life, I'm feeling anxious about the Extended Security Updates (ESUs). They can get pretty pricey, and I'd rather not face a shocking renewal cost next year. I'm responsible for managing endpoints in a healthcare setting, and I'm curious about how other teams are coping with this situation. How do you keep track of which PCs require these updates? What strategies do you use to include the ESUs in your budget? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

We decided not to go the ESU route primarily because it requires setting up a WSUS server for updates, which we didn’t want to handle. It's something to consider—it's a more complex setup than I anticipated.

I'm curious too. If this is true, it could really disrupt ESU planning—especially with the deadline looming. There should be more discussion about this!

Do you have any documentation proving that WSUS is a must? We're considering ESUs while we transition away from old hardware.
