I recently worked on my Asus TUF F15 laptop, where I changed the thermal paste and cleaned out the fans. After that, the laptop powered on and showed normal temperatures, but about 30 minutes in, it froze. I had to force shutdown using the power button. Now, when I try to turn it back on, it powers up but the screen remains completely black. Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Changing thermal paste on a laptop is pretty common! To troubleshoot, plug it into an external monitor or TV to check for a display. If that fails, check if the laptop is getting power. It’s possible that during the thermal paste change, something could have spilled or a component got damaged or unplugged. Look for any visible thermal paste leaks and ensure everything is connected properly.
I've never encountered this issue after cleaning and repasting before. My first suggestion would be to ensure all connections are tight. Carefully check the heat sink, thermal paste application, and make sure the fans are clean. Reassemble slowly, listen for any unusual noises when powering it up again. Good luck!
Just to double-check, did you fully shut it down by holding the power button for about 5 seconds? Sometimes that can help reset things before you try turning it back on.
When you say the screen is black, do you mean it's completely black or more of a grey-black like it's powered on but not receiving a signal? First, try unplugging the battery and then hold the power button for a bit to clear any leftover charge. Put everything back together and see if it turns on with the display working.
Wait, people actually don’t change thermal paste on laptops? I thought that was a regular maintenance thing!
