My ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is Smoking—What Should I Do?

I have an ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop running Windows 11, and I've noticed that it recently started emitting smoke from the left hinge of the display screen while I was using it. After checking, I found that a small part of a wire cover near the hinge had melted, which makes me think there might be a frayed or split wire somewhere. Can anyone suggest how I should proceed with diagnosing or fixing this issue? Is this likely related to the battery or the motherboard? Also, I'm having trouble attaching images to this discussion—any advice on how to do that would be appreciated!

Before diving into repairs, make sure you back up any important data. Changes to BIOS or disk settings can lead to data loss. As for your laptop, you might want to upload images to Imgur and share the link here. The wiring near the hinge could be routed next to some sensitive components like the display connector or Wi-Fi, which might explain the smoking. It’s crucial to check that wiring because it handles higher voltage for the display and can be a fire hazard.

Thanks for the tip on the images! I’ll do that. I really think it’s related to the display wiring, so I’ll check that out.
