My Computer Won’t Connect to the TV – What Could Be Wrong?

I recently inherited a computer from my uncle, which I remember helping him shop for new parts for about a year or two ago. I was looking to switch from Xbox to PC gaming, but lately, my computer has been acting strange. I can turn it on, and I hear the fans running, but it won't connect to my TV like it used to. It also seems like my mouse and keyboard aren't lighting up anymore. My dad thinks there might be an issue with the motherboard, but I'm totally new to this and would love some advice from more experienced users. To top it off, my back fan has stopped spinning altogether. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

It sounds like your computer is having trouble with the power-on self-test (POST). This could be due to various hardware failures. I recommend you start troubleshooting to pinpoint the issue. Checking the RAM and connections is a good first step.

What exactly should I check for in the RAM? I'm really not familiar with this.

I had a similar problem before. My motherboard started failing, and I lost access to all my USB ports. If it is the motherboard, you might need to get a new one, but make sure any new motherboard is compatible with your current RAM and CPU. What do you have in your setup?

I see a Corsair CX650M power supply and some MSI parts with a dragon emblem, plus Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM. I can send a pic of the inside if that helps!

How old is your desktop? The age might give a clue about the potential hardware issues. Older components can lead to failures like this.

I think it's pretty old since my uncle had it for a while. I can tell you some parts but I'm pretty clueless about most.
