Hey everyone! I've been dealing with my CPU overheating lately, and it's really becoming a pain. It started heating up out of nowhere, reaching around 105°C, and it's causing lag in my games. I've tried everything from checking various forums and videos to cleaning and reapplying thermal paste, but nothing seems to help. I'm hesitant to take it to a repair shop since that could be costly or risky. I might just end up replacing the part causing the issue, but I'm not sure what's actually failing. Should I replace my AIO cooler, or do I need to consider upgrading other components like my GPU or motherboard? Here's my current setup:
- GPU: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super (approx. 4 years old)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K (3.6 GHz, approx. 4 years old)
- Motherboard: MSI Z-390 A-Pro (approx. 4 years old)
- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB sticks) DDR4-3200MHz (approx. 2 years old)
- AIO Cooler: Be Quiet! Silent Loop 2 360mm (approx. 3 years old)
- 2 SSDs (480GB each)
- 27" 1080p 144Hz Monitor
I usually keep my PC on throughout the day since I work from home, and it tends to get pretty hot, especially when I forget to turn it off or let it sleep. Can anyone help diagnose whether my CPU, AIO cooler, or motherboard is the issue? I'd appreciate any insights!

It could simply be that your pump is failing or there's air stuck. Have you tried moving the radiator around a bit? Bad power supplies can also cause issues like this, so keep that in mind.
Sounds like your AIO cooler might be the culprit here. They're known to fail after a few years, and that white stuff you found in the fluid isn't a good sign. It could indicate algae or corrosion, which means the cooling efficiency is shot. I'd recommend either flushing it out and cleaning it or replacing it altogether. A simple air cooler could save you some hassle too! Good luck!
Thanks for the advice! I’ll look into getting a new cooler soon.
Yup, I think your AIO is dead. If you found those white chunks, it sounds like the fluid in there has gone bad. The pump may still be running, but that won't help if the liquid isn't flowing properly. You have a few choices: you could clean it yourself, contact the manufacturer for an RMA, or just buy a new cooler. A good budget option is the Peerless Assassin.
I appreciate the detailed options! I’ll see if I can clean it, but if not, I’ll consider getting a new cooler.
Have you changed anything in your setup recently? Sometimes just reapplying thermal paste can help. And make sure your fans are set up correctly—try using more fans to blow fresh air into the case!
I’ve done the thermal paste multiple times already, and I didn’t change anything else. I think the cooler is the main issue. Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I have checked the pump speed, and it seems fine, but I may need to look into getting a new cooler if that’s the problem.
