My DNS Seems Hijacked, What Should I Do?

A few months ago, I noticed that I could access websites that are typically banned in my country. Today, when I booted my computer, I was redirected to msftconnecttest.com from Firefox. When I tried to perform a DNS leak test, many test sites were inaccessible, and I got a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error on dnsleaktest.com, as well as similar errors on other sites. To make matters worse, dnschecktool indicated that my system might be infected. What steps can I take to resolve this?

First off, definitely change your DNS settings. Just log into your modem's interface and switch to Cloudflare's DNS. Use 1.1.1.1 as the primary and 1.0.0.1 as the secondary. It should help clear up the hijacking issue!

Do you think it's actually a malicious issue, or am I just being paranoid?

You should also check your hosts file on your PC. It's an older method that hackers use to hijack DNS, and it could be the reason you're having trouble. DNS queries look there first before going to your router's DNS settings. Clearing it might help!

Where can I find the hosts file?
