I've been using my external hard drive without problems, but out of nowhere, it started causing File Explorer to freeze when I plug it in. It doesn't freeze immediately; it happens when I'm trying to open folders on the drive or even when I'm just navigating through my C drive. I've got some really important files on this drive, and I'm quite worried about what's happening. I want to avoid making the issue worse, but what should I do?

It sounds like your hard drive might be failing. They do have a limited lifespan, and it can be sudden. If you haven't backed up your files yet, you really should try to do that as soon as possible. It might help to try connecting it to another computer to see if the same issue occurs.
