I'm having some trouble with my external hard drive, a Samsung D3. It's pretty old, but it suddenly stopped working properly after I downloaded a mod for a game. It doesn't make any unusual noises, and my laptop detects it fine. However, when I plug it in, it sometimes shows 'Not responding,' and I have to unplug it. Other times, it connects as normal but then disconnects right after, or it lets me access my files for a moment before freezing on me. I've tried using it on another laptop and switched USB cables, but the problem persists. I really hope it's not dead because I have a ton of games and mods stored on it. Oh, and the indicator light now keeps blinking even after disconnection, which is new for me.

It sounds like your external HDD might not be getting enough power. Have you tried using different USB ports, especially a USB 3.0 port? Also, a full CHKDSK could help, but it might freeze before you get the chance to run it.

Thanks for the tip! I've already tried all the ports on my laptop and switched to a different cable. I've been using this drive for so long—why would the cable start causing issues now? Plus, I can't run CHKDSK because it keeps disconnecting or freezing Explorer.
