My Girlfriend Is Upset After Talking to ChatGPT About Her Illness—What Should I Do?

I'm really worried about my girlfriend. She's been diagnosed with severe endometriosis, and it's affecting her physically and emotionally. Lately, she's been using ChatGPT to ask about her condition, including how bad it is and her chances of conceiving, which is something we're trying for. She even sent her doctor's notes to the chatbot for analysis. After seeing her upset by the responses, I've tried to explain that ChatGPT can't replace medical advice from a real doctor. Is this just a phase we're going through with AI, or do people really trust it too much? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I totally get where you're coming from. I have severe endometriosis too, and while it was tough not being able to conceive, I've found happiness in unexpected places. It's crucial to help your girlfriend face reality while still supporting her emotionally. Maybe suggest using ChatGPT to explore therapeutic techniques like internal family systems or attachment styles? It could help her process her feelings about hope and grief simultaneously. Remember, life can still be beautiful, no matter the outcome.

Wow, thanks a ton for sharing your experience! Maybe I've been too optimistic about the chances to conceive. It sounds like she knows a lot more about her condition than I do.
