I recently installed Windows 11 on my old HP laptop (model 15-dw0012na), and after about an hour of updating, it just shut down completely. Now it won't charge, won't turn on, and nothing happens when I hold the power button. It was charging fine before the update, though it was a bit slow due to its age. I'm looking for any tips or advice since I mainly use it for writing and don't want to spend money on a replacement. Thanks! Update: Turns out it was just the charger! Borrowed my brother's, and the laptop powered up fine. I feel a bit silly, but I'm relieved it's okay now!

You might want to do a power reset: turn off the laptop, disconnect the AC adapter, remove any external devices, and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds. After that, plug it back in and see if it powers on.
Check to see if your power brick is working—sometimes they can die from heat over time. If you can, test with another charger, or try disconnecting the CMOS battery and see if that helps.
I'll check if anyone in the house has a spare to test out, thanks for the suggestion.
Have you tried reseating the power brick or plugging it into a different outlet? Sometimes the charger or the outlet could be the problem. Also, using a different charger can help identify whether the brick is dead.
Gonna try a different charger and hope that's the issue - fingers crossed.
If it boots up, make sure to run HP Diagnostics to check for any issues. But at this point, it sounds like you just had a charger issue after all!
I will if it ever boots, but right now it's just a hunk of metal and plastic.
If absolutely nothing happens when you press the power button, it might just be dead. You could try removing the CMOS battery, but that usually requires disassembling the laptop, which may not be ideal.
Yeah, I saw the suggestion for the CMOS battery online, but taking off the whole bottom case seems a bit daunting.
That’s solid advice, keep us updated.
