My Laptop Fell and Now There’s a Buzzing Sound – Should I Be Worried?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on my laptop. It fell from a short distance onto carpet, and since then, I've noticed a low buzzing sound that's almost silent. When I turn it off, I hear a clicking sound that lasts for about 10 minutes. I'm thinking it might just be coil whine, but I'm concerned about the clicking noise when it's off since it's louder than the buzzing. The laptop is primarily for gaming, and the sounds don't appear while I'm playing, plus there hasn't been any significant performance drop except for a slight fps dip during one gaming session. There's no burnt smell or any visible issues other than these odd sounds. Should I be worried about this, and should I take it to get checked out?

If your laptop has an HDD, that could be the culprit for the noise. But if you're using an SSD, then it's probably not that. It might be the fans making those sounds, especially after a fall, which can sometimes cause them to act up. If you can, try replacing the fans if that’s the issue.

Yeah, I’ve got an SSD in there. I’m planning to take it to the shop tomorrow to get it checked out. I really hope it's just the fans and not something worse.

Sounds like it could be your fans, for sure. Since you're not using an HDD, that rules out one possibility. I’d suggest having it looked at, especially if those sounds are new after the fall.
