My Laptop is Struggling with High Memory and CPU Usage – What Can I Do?

Hey folks, I'm having some serious issues with my laptop. It's got 8 GB of RAM (not sure about the brand), a GTX 1650 graphics card, and a Ryzen 5 5600H processor. It's an HP Pavilion from a few years back and I believe I'm running on Windows 11. Recently, I noticed that my memory is sitting at over 50% even when nothing is open, and when I try to run any games, it spikes to 80-90% for both memory and CPU. I've basically hit a wall: I can only run lightweight games like Valorant or Roblox, and barely manage Fortnite at 30fps.

The trouble started when I broke my original 140W charger and switched to a 60W one. Now, I can't even play games unless my battery is fully charged. Currently, I have Google Chrome and Task Manager open and I'm seeing memory at 87% with loads of background processes. I've heard about something called bloatware – could that be the issue? Any help to get my performance back to normal would be amazing!

Make sure to run DxDiag to get a full report of your system. You might want to reinstall Windows every now and then for the best performance, especially if things feel sluggish. Also, Chrome is a memory hog; consider trying Firefox or Edge instead for lighter browsing.

I ran the diagnostic, and it gave me some details but said nothing specific about the RAM. Any lighter browser recommendations? Also, does reinstalling Windows mean losing all my files?

Yeah, reinstalling usually means you'll lose your files, so back up anything important first!

It sounds like your RAM might be too low for current gaming demands. 8 GB doesn't cut it anymore, especially if you want to multitask. Upgrading to 16 GB could make a big difference!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into getting more RAM.

It seems like your laptop might be running in a degraded CPU mode due to the lower wattage of your new charger. You should consider switching back to a 140W charger – that’s likely essential for proper performance. Check your CPU clock speed too; if it's running at only a fraction of its capacity, that's a key part of the issue!

My speed is around 3.00GHz. Does that sound right? I think I'm with you on needing the right power supply.
