I've been facing some major issues with my laptop lately. Initially, my microphone broke while I was using Linux, and since then, my sound card basically disappeared. When I switched back to Windows and checked the device manager, I saw that the Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) OED has stopped working, showing an error code 10. I've been trying to solve this problem for about a year now, any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Just to give you some context, my laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T14s Gen 1, with an Intel Core i5 10310u, 512GB storage, 16GB RAM, and Intel UHD Graphics. I've updated my original post to mention that I'm beginning to think I might need to get a new laptop altogether, but I'm still open to any suggestions on fixing the current one.

If the audio issue persists across both Linux and Windows, this is likely a hardware problem. In that case, it might be simpler and more cost-effective to get an external USB sound card rather than replacing the audio chip on the motherboard.
First things first, have you tried checking and updating the Intel SST drivers directly from the manufacturer’s website? It might solve the problem.
I actually tried that already, and it didn’t work. I can give it another shot but I'm not too optimistic about it.

I was really hoping that wasn't the case. Looks like it'll be time for me to start shopping for a new laptop, thanks for the heads up!
