My Laptop Won’t Boot Properly—Any Ideas?

I booted my laptop normally, but it failed to start and displayed an error saying it was "waiting for device /dev/disk/by-uuid/7c5a-0100," and there were dependency failures related to the file systems. After restarting, it made it to the login screen, but froze and turned black when I tried to log in. Now, every time I power it on, I just see a black screen. I've tried to access the boot menu and BIOS, but nothing happens, just a black screen. I noticed my battery drains quickly, so I removed it, held the power button for 15 seconds, and replaced it, but that didn't help. I'm using Zorin OS, and I've already reseated the RAM and reconnected the hard drive. I'm really at a loss here. Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like your laptop is having trouble finding your disk, which could mean either something got corrupted or you might be facing a storage device failure. From your description, I suspect it’s the latter and that replacing the hard drive could be necessary.

Given the symptoms, I'd definitely suggest checking your hard drive first. If you're comfortable, try running some diagnostics using a live USB. It’s a good way to see if the hard drive is the issue without booting into your OS.
