My laptop won’t turn on—any advice?

I have an MSI Sword 15 from 2022, and it's completely unresponsive. There aren't any lights on the keyboard or motherboard, and when I press and hold the power button, nothing happens. I even tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, but the laptop does get warm while it's charging. Is there any chance of saving it or is it likely done for?

Sounds like it might be a bad motherboard, especially if you've already ruled out using a different AC adapter. Just check to see if it’s genuinely dead before giving up—sometimes the power can still flow through, even if it doesn’t boot up. It’s a bummer that the RAM and CPU areas are heating up, but it’s not a definitive sign that the motherboard is fine.

If the motherboard is bad, will any power still go through it? I’ve been leaving it plugged in overnight and that area stays warm, but nothing else happens.

First things first, try this: disconnect the battery and charger, press and release the power button 5 times, then hold it down for 10 seconds. After that, plug the charger back in with the battery still disconnected and hit the power button again. Let me know what happens!

Tried all those steps, unfortunately nothing changed.

You might want to consider taking the motherboard out yourself if you feel up to it. But honestly, if it’s under warranty, check that first! It could save you some cash. If you end up pulling it out, take it to a repair shop and see if they can confirm if it’s showing any signs of life. I had a similar issue and found out my GPU had failed after some troubleshooting.
