Hey everyone,
I'm reaching out because I'm having trouble with my old Dell laptop. It seems the SSD has failed or something went wrong. I was using it normally, then suddenly it rebooted and no longer recognizes the SSD. It's an M.2 SATA 3 drive, which looks more like a stick of RAM.
I've checked the BIOS and it's set to AHCI, but that didn't help. I even tried resetting the BIOS settings, but I'm not seeing any changes. It's as if it lost its boot tables or something.
When I removed the SSD and connected it as an external drive, it shows up in the computer management app, but it needs to be initialized, and it won't allow me to do that. I can't remember if this SSD is BitLocker protected, but I'm not looking for a way to bypass that; I can retrieve the key if necessary, but I don't know why it doesn't prompt me for it.
There are crucial files on this drive, and I really need to get them back. Is there anything else I can try or any software that might help me recover my data?
Thanks for any advice!

It sounds like your SSD might be failing. Generally, a BitLocker protected drive should still show up, so it could be a hardware issue. If the data is really important, I’d recommend contacting a data recovery service ASAP. And just a heads up, you actually have an SSD, not an HDD; SSDs are faster and use different technology to store data.

Are there any specific data recovery software options you suggest trying before going to a service?
