My Monitor’s Colors Have Deteriorated—What’s Going On?

About two weeks ago, my monitor's colors shifted from vibrant and well-balanced to much duller and harder to see. I've noticed that enabling HDR in Windows makes it look great again, though it seems a bit too bright and punchy compared to my original settings. However, HDR has some annoying glitches, and when I share my screen, it looks overly bright and terrible for others. The fading to black appears blocky instead of smooth, which is frustrating. I'm not sure what caused this change. I've tried updating my NVIDIA drivers, tweaking various settings on the monitor, and adjusting color settings in the NVIDIA control panel, but nothing seems to restore the original clarity I had. Any ideas on what might have happened? I have high-end specs for both my computer and monitor.

It sounds like something's up with your monitor’s settings. When you enable HDR, it usually auto-adjusts the settings, and reverting back might not return it to where it was. I suggest diving into your monitor's on-screen settings—there should be buttons or maybe a joystick you can use to navigate through the options for brightness and colors. If you can’t figure it out, try Googling your monitor model followed by 'manual' to find detailed instructions. Also, keep in mind that if your friends don't have HDR turned on, they won’t be seeing the content as you do! Streaming typically doesn't support HDR either, so that could be why it appears off for them.

That's interesting. My monitor allows some tweaks, but nothing matches the HDR capabilities. It feels like the HDR setting is the baseline, and everything else underwhelms by comparison. Thanks for the tips!
