I recently picked up a new gaming PC with a 6GB RTX 3050 graphics card, a Ryzen 5 5600X processor, 32GB of 3200MHz RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a lot of lag in games. For instance, in Fortnite, my FPS can drop from over 200 to 20 or 30 out of nowhere. I also noticed similar drops in Minecraft, where it goes from around 200 FPS to below 80. I'm unsure if there are settings I need to change since I'm new to this. Any advice would be appreciated!

Don’t forget that Fortnite recommends at least 8GB of VRAM for optimal performance. With only 6GB, you might find it struggling. Consider using performance mode in Fortnite to reduce lag. Also, testing with less demanding games could help understand if the GPU is the problem.
It sounds like background applications might be causing the interference. You could check to see if there's anything running when you play that shouldn't be. That can often be a culprit behind sudden FPS drops.
I've faced similar issues! It turned out that my CPU wasn't turbo boosting correctly due to power settings in my motherboard software. It’s worth checking your task manager to see if any processes are spiking and affecting your CPU or GPU.
Try using the Nvidia App! Go to "Graphics" and hit the "OPTIMIZE" tab for your games. If that doesn’t work, check the System settings to adjust the Fan Speed Target manually. This can help with performance issues until Nvidia releases a fix.
Make sure you plugged the HDMI cable into the GPU and not the motherboard. If it’s a DisplayPort and it’s connected to the graphics card, then it should be fine!
