I recently replaced my old M.2 SSD with a new one two months ago. Everything was running smoothly until I installed a new heatsink yesterday. I made sure to turn off the power supply and unplug the wall socket for safety while I removed the M.2 drive to install the heatsink. However, after reinstallation, the M.2 SSD isn't working at all and isn't even recognized by the system. It gets a little warm, but not too hot, and it seems like the controller chip is the hottest. I've tried reinstalling it multiple times and even cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol, but nothing has helped. I'm concerned that I might have damaged it somehow, possibly due to static electricity or maybe there's a cold solder joint that broke during the process. Any suggestions on what might be going on?

Did you use an anti-static wrist strap or at least touch something metal to discharge any static before handling your components? If not, that could have damaged your SSD. Also, after taking off the heatsink, does the drive still not work?
That should be fine for grounding as long as the power supply was connected.
Have you tried reinstalling the SSD without the heatsink? That could help determine if the heatsink installation is causing the issue.
Actually, that's the first thing I did after it didn't work with the heatsink.

Does the case count as metal? I did touch it when I was moving it around to reinstall the SSD.
