My New RTX 1080 Ti Isn’t Working Properly – Need Help!

I just picked up a used RTX 1080 Ti to replace my old RX 580, thinking it would solve the issues I was facing. At first, the performance seemed fine while gaming, but after a few sessions, I started getting errors related to D3D and the drivers. It prompted me to update the drivers, but there was no clear indication that I needed to. After reinstalling the drivers, my pc either freezes or shuts down completely when I try to play. I'm considering cleaning the graphics card, but I'm unsure if that will help. If anyone has any insights or suggestions on what steps to take, I'd really appreciate it!

You might want to check if DirectX is installed properly, since D3D errors usually relate to that. Installing or updating DirectX might resolve the issue you're facing.

Have you tried using DDU to thoroughly uninstall the old drivers before you reinstall? It can make a big difference. Also, keep in mind that since the 1080 Ti is an older model, it could be starting to fail from years of use. If nothing works, you might want to consider returning it instead.

I had a similar problem with an old 1080 Ti I bought. Switching out the thermal paste made a massive improvement, so that could help. It might also be worth underclocking the RAM a bit and reducing the power limit to see if that stabilizes things for now.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give the repasting a shot, it’s worth a try if it can fix the issues.
