My New RTX 5090 + Ryzen 9800X3D Build Freezes When Streaming After an Hour — Is EXPO to Blame?

I've put together a pretty powerful rig with an RTX 5090 and a Ryzen 9800X3D, but I'm running into a weird issue. It works great for general use and benchmarks, but whenever I stream while gaming (specifically Warzone and using OBS), I start to experience freezes around the one-hour mark. The game stutters, then freezes completely, requiring a manual shutdown. I'm not getting any error messages or crash logs, just a hard freeze. I've got everything cooled properly, and both CPU and GPU temperatures are in check. I'm using NVENC in OBS, and I capped my FPS at 357. I've already updated my BIOS and drivers, and my RAM has passed all memory tests. I've been thinking about disabling EXPO since I've heard it can destabilize Ryzen CPUs under heavy loads. Would love any insight on whether others have faced this issue or if dropping my RAM speed from 6000 to 5600 could be a fix. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I had a similar problem, and dropping my RAM speed from 6000MHz to 5600MHz did the trick for me. It’s not unusual for some systems to need a bit of a downgrade in RAM speed to stabilize performance. Might be worth a shot!

Thanks for the tip! I’m definitely considering it. I want to get everything running as smoothly as possible without those frustrating freezes.

Definitely give disabling EXPO a try and see if that resolves the issue. I suspect it might be causing instability, especially if it's a known problem with your CPU and RAM speed combo. But there’s a chance it could also be related to software, like the drivers for the 5090 or OBS itself being a bit buggy. So, testing step by step is a good plan.

I think it’s worth looking at the drivers too. Sometimes a new graphics card might need a solid driver update beyond just the basic one. But EXPO could absolutely be the culprit, so definitely try disabling it first.
