My PC is Acting Up After a Fall – What Could Be Wrong?

A few months ago, my computer (the tower, not just the CPU) took a minor spill while we were moving houses. Since then, it's been shutting down randomly—though it's pretty rare, I didn't think much of it at first. I did encounter a blue screen of death once, but it restarted fine. Recently, though, it crashed again, showing the blue screen with a kmode error or something similar. It restarted automatically but got stuck at 0% and I had to cut the power. Now, the RGB lights on the tower are on, but my monitor has no signal at all. Is this an issue with the motherboard or something else?

You should look into getting dump files for more accurate analysis of the BSOD. If you can access Windows or boot into Safe Mode, check for dump files in C:WindowsMinidump. If you find any, zip the folder and upload it to a file-sharing site like catbox.moe or mediafire.com. Multiple dump files are better for diagnosis.

Make sure you also check the CPU contact pads and the socket for any damage or debris. If there’s anything odd there, it could be causing issues.

Just to clarify, did you drop the computer tower, or actually take the CPU out of the socket during the move? That could change how you approach troubleshooting.

It sounds like something might have come loose after the fall. Try shutting down your PC, disconnecting the power, and grounding yourself. Then, reseat the RAM modules, the GPU (if you have one), and all power and SATA connectors. Unplug everything and plug them back in firmly. Also, check that the heatsink and fan assemblies haven't popped loose.
