My PC is feeling sluggish in games, what should I upgrade first?

I've got a decent setup with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU, and 32GB of RAM (4x8GB). I'm running my games off a SATA SSD (Samsung 870 QVO) while my NVMe SSD (Samsung 970 EVO Plus) doesn't really hold any games. Lately, my games have started lagging, even on lower settings, when I used to run them well at high settings. I'm not sure which part I should prioritize for an upgrade to improve performance. Any advice?

Your setup is already pretty solid! Just make sure you're running your games off that SSD and not an HDD, as that could really slow things down. If you’re not using the fast storage for your games, consider moving them to the NVMe drive.

With four RAM sticks, it's essential to check if your memory is running at the right speed. Also, what resolution and frame rates are you targeting? Sometimes those settings can impact performance more than the hardware itself.

When you say it's slow, do you specifically mean low FPS or just general lag? Be clear about that because it might help narrow down the issue.

If you're looking for a more significant boost, consider upgrading to a 2TB Gen5 SSD with DRAM and heatsink, plus maybe a new GPU with 16GB VRAM. Also, don’t forget to update your BIOS to the latest version for improved performance!

It's important to run games off a decent SSD or NVMe drive, and ensure you have at least 15% of your storage free to improve data transfer speeds. That could help smooth things out for you.
