My PC is Stuck on Updates – Help Needed!

Hey everyone! So I've been avoiding Windows updates because, let's be honest, they can be a nightmare. This morning, I was gaming without any issues, but when I shut down my PC to take a break, it started updating when I turned it back on. I was confused since I thought I had paused all updates. I waited around for 15 minutes, and when it didn't finish, I had to force shut it down. Now it just keeps showing me this message: "Updates are underway, please do not turn off your PC." A couple of minutes later, it said, "Something didn't go as planned. No need to worry—undoing changes. Please keep your computer on." Since then, I haven't been able to boot into Windows at all! I've tried deleting updates (it won't let me), doing a clean reinstall (again, no luck), and running the sfc command, which says there are corrupted files but doesn't fix anything. I really need this PC for work, so any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like a tough situation! Windows updates can take ages, especially if you're running on older hardware, but typically, if it gets stuck, it could be a sign of bigger issues. The first thing I suggest is to create a Windows installation disk using another computer. Once you have it, boot from that USB or DVD and try the "Repair Windows" option. If that doesn’t work, you might need to consider a full reinstall. Just make sure to select the option that keeps your files if you want to save your data. Good luck!

It seems like you could be running Windows 10 or 11, and it’s possibly trying to update to a newer version that your PC doesn't support. Check your CPU specs and confirm if it's compatible with the latest updates. If it is, grab a USB stick, at least 8GB, and create a Windows installation USB for the newest version. Just remember to unplug the old drive during the boot process to avoid any conflicts. And yeah, not keeping up with updates can definitely lead to issues like this!

Honestly, just reinstalling Windows might be your best bet right now. It can be a hassle, but sometimes it’s the quickest way to get everything back up and running without all the headaches of troubleshooting.

Hey, good news: I managed to boot my PC again! I followed some tips I found online and realized it was my own fault for not keeping up with the updates. Thanks a ton for your help, everyone! I’ll definitely learn from this mistake! 😊

Just a heads up, the Windows updates can be a real pain if you ignore them for too long! Make sure to keep your system updated regularly to avoid these issues. But for now, definitely look into those repair options or a possible reinstall as others suggested.
