My PC Isn’t Running Games Well After I Hit My Desk

So, here's the situation: I just built my first gaming PC, and everything was running perfectly for about a week. But then, I got frustrated and slammed my hand on my desk, and now my games are averaging around 5-6 FPS. The weird part is, the temperatures seem fine, and all the power cables look fully connected. I've checked my GPU and RAM, and they're seated properly. My SSD isn't full either, so that's not the issue. I believe all my drivers are up to date since I'm on Windows 11. I've tried lowering the game settings, and it does help a bit. Just to clarify, my HDMI is plugged into my GPU, and I'm using a wireless network — not sure if that matters. Any help would really be appreciated since it's my first build and I'm quite lost!

When I had a similar problem with my computer shutting down during games, I found out that a clip holding my CPU cooler had broken. This caused the cooler to lose contact with the CPU, leading to overheating and shutdowns. Make sure to check not only the GPU and RAM but also your CPU cooler and any other components—anything could be slightly loose!

It sounds like you might have a loose connection somewhere. I'd recommend disconnecting and reconnecting the RAM, GPU, and all the major power connectors. It’s possible that slamming your desk may have jostled something loose. Also, instead of playing games, you could use a benchmarking tool like OCCT to test components individually and see what's causing the drop in performance.

LOL, I see a lot of 'just keep slamming it' suggestions, but honestly, it's probably a call for therapy! Just kidding — but seriously, before doing anything drastic, check the hardware connections first.

Just a heads up about hard drives: they're quite sensitive and can get damaged from strong vibrations. If you're using an HDD for gaming, like I do, be extra cautious. Vibration from slamming the desk can cause issues with the drive.

Looks like the issue for me was my graphic drivers! I had a similar crash, but it turned out a driver update fixed it. I still don’t know why it crashed right then, though. It might be worth double-checking if there’s an update or maybe rolling back to a previous version if you just updated.
