My PC Won’t Boot – Faint Clicking Noise from the PSU

Hey everyone! I ran into some trouble with my PC right after work. I hadn't powered it on for two days, and now when I hit the power button, all I get is a faint clicking noise from the PSU. I read that sometimes this clicking can be normal due to a relay, but I'm worried I might have a dead motherboard. I've already tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps like shorting the power button pins with a screwdriver, swapping RAM sticks, removing the graphics card and cleaning its pins, and reseating all the cables connected to the motherboard. I even tried booting it without the CMOS battery, but nothing seems to work. I considered getting a new battery, but the wires are spot welded, and I heard it might boot without keeping time. Oh, and I replaced the PSU with a new one, but the faint clicking still persists. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try shorting the ATX 24-pin connector on your PSU to check if it's functional. It's not too hard to do, and there are plenty of video guides online. Also, what model is your PSU? Some models come with built-in testers which could help you figure this out.

From what you're describing, it sounds like your PSU might be the culprit. I had a similar issue before where it initially clicked, and then a loud pop came from it when I attempted to power on. Have you had a chance to test the old PSU after it was replaced?

Honestly, it could also be a dead motherboard. I would check all connections again and maybe look into a motherboard diagnostic tool if you have access to one.
