My Samsung 990 Pro Plus NVMe Drive is Super Slow! What Should I Check?

Hey everyone, I'm having a real issue with my Samsung 990 Pro Plus NVMe drive. It doesn't seem to be performing anywhere near the speeds that are advertised. During my tests, the speed fluctuates wildly, and I've attached some CrystalDiskMark benchmarks where I can clearly see it doesn't match up with what others are getting. Also, when transferring files in Windows, I sometimes see speeds as low as 1MB/s, despite occasionally getting bursts of over 400MB/s. Here are my system specs for reference: I'm running Windows 11 with a Ryzen 5 9600X CPU, a Gigabyte B850M Eagle motherboard, and 32GB of Kingston Hyper Fury DDR5 RAM. Can anyone help me figure out if my drive is defective or if I've just missed a setting?

First off, have you tried using Samsung Magician? It’s a great tool that can check for firmware updates and run diagnostics on your drive to spot any issues. If you haven’t done that yet, I’d recommend starting there.

Just a heads up – if you're thinking about tweaking your BIOS settings or making any major changes to your disk setup, make sure your data is backed up first! Changing those settings can sometimes lead to data loss. Always better to be safe!

Your CrystalDiskMark results might look okay, but keep an eye on those random read/write speeds. They can be just as crucial. If your sequentials are fine but other metrics are off, it could be causing your inconsistent performance. Have you checked online benchmarks for the same drive to compare? They can be pretty telling.

Yeah, I did check and there are some big differences, especially in the random read/write results. I'm starting to think there's definitely something off.
