Hey everyone! I'm having an issue with my USB drive that says it needs to be formatted before use. This has never happened to me before, and I'm really worried because it contains some crucial files for my mother's work. Does anyone have advice on the best way to recover as much data as possible? Unfortunately, we don't have any reliable professionals in my city to help us. Thanks a lot!

It sounds like the USB might have been improperly removed from a device without dismounting it correctly. This can corrupt the file system, leading to that formatting prompt. You’ll want to try using a partition manager like AOMEI Partition Assistant or EaseUS Partition Assistant to fix the partition. Just remember, don't create a new partition—this can wipe the data! If the partition has already been wiped, you're looking at data recovery software, but keep in mind it may not recover everything, just some file types like docs or images.
I'm really nervous about trying it, but it seems like I have no choice. I warned my mom about saving important files on just one USB... she didn't listen!
