Hi everyone! I'm a single dad trying to build a computer for my son who's about to turn 18. I've saved up some money, but I'm feeling a bit lost after watching a basic PC building guide on YouTube. My son does a lot of music production, video editing, and graphic design on an old laptop, and it's tough seeing him struggle with it. If anyone has recommendations on where to find good resources or advice on building a PC, I would really appreciate it!

If your son is also into gaming, I’d suggest considering a Mac. They’re really good for music and video stuff. The new M-based Mac Minis are super powerful and start around $599, plus refurbished ones can be cheaper. Just keep in mind the RAM limitations for entry-level machines.
I found this YouTube video super helpful for beginners: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1fxZ-VWs2U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1fxZ-VWs2U). It really walks you through the building process step-by-step!
Start by determining your budget since that really influences your options. For around $1,000, you can build a decent machine. If you’re not firm on that amount, consider upping it a bit for better components.
I’d like to stick to around $1,000 but I'm open to adjusting if necessary!
Check out this beginner's guide on the buildapc wiki! It covers everything you need to know to get started: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/beginnersguide. It’s a great resource for figuring out what parts you might need and how to assemble everything.
Thank you for the link!
Thanks! I'll definitely check it out.
