Hey everyone! I need some advice on upgrading my gaming rig since my setup from 2018 just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm mainly playing Fortnite with friends, but the performance is lagging, so I'm looking to build something new.
I'm currently considering two GPU options: the RX 9060 XT at €375 and the 5060 Ti at €435. For the CPU, I'm looking at the Ryzen 7 7900X for €290 or possibly the R7 7800X3D for €365 (or €340 if I go for the tray version). I'm planning to pair this with an affordable B650E motherboard, keep my existing SSDs, get a new 750W PSU, and add 32GB of DDR5 RAM (either 6000 or maybe 6400 if it works better with the 7900X). I also want to stick with an air cooler to save costs.
I'm not too bothered about DLSS and ray tracing—I just want to game smoothly at 1440p or 1080p, and I'd like to dabble in some single-player 4K games at 60fps. My main concern is if I'm spending too much and if there are cheaper alternatives that would still give me a solid experience and some future-proofing. Additionally, I've heard mixed things about the 7900X in terms of optimization—is it worth it? I enjoy multiplayer games like Warzone and single-player RPGs and shooters, so any general guidance before I commit to my build would be super appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Honestly, the 7900X isn’t the best value for gaming since most games won't utilize all those extra cores. A Ryzen 7 7500F or 7600/X paired with a GPU like the 5070 or even the 9060XT would probably give you a much better gaming experience for less money. And don’t forget to check out pcpartpicker.com for comparing your options and keeping track of your parts!
Thanks! So you think 6 cores will be sufficient for the next few years? I could always upgrade to a better AM5 CPU later on if needed?
