Need Help: Robbed in Colombia, Apple Denying My Theft & Loss Claim

So I had a really rough experience while traveling in Medellín, Colombia on May 29. My drink was spiked, and while I was out cold, I got robbed of all my devices—my iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple Watch, iPad mini, and even my green card! I suspect the thief even used my Face ID to unlock my phone. After that, I noticed some unauthorized charges appearing on my Apple and Chase cards.

When I got back to the U.S. recently, I activated an old iPhone 13 Pro and started working on regaining access to my accounts. But when I tried to file a Theft & Loss claim for my stolen iPhone 15 Pro Max, I got told by Apple Support that my plan was canceled the very day I was robbed—completely undermining my ability to file a claim!

I've been paying for this coverage ever since I got the phone last year, so it's really frustrating to hear that since the thief canceled the plan, I'm not eligible to make a claim. It feels deceptive, like the whole insurance system is set up to fail me when I needed it the most.

I'm wondering if others have experienced something similar and what steps I can take to escalate this situation? I'd really appreciate any guidance or resources to help me move forward, or even support in exploring legal action if that's an option. Thank you!

I'm really sorry to hear what happened to you. You can try going into iCloud.com/find (remember, the /find is key!) to put your stolen device into lost mode—this might not require verification. Also, it might be worth reaching out directly to Tim Cook's team at [email protected].

That really sucks! But hey, I guess there’s a silver lining. The thief actually did you a favor by canceling the AppleCare on the phone. If they hadn’t, they could’ve locked you out of everything by changing your Apple ID password. Just keep your head up; you're handling it pretty well.

Yeah, I’m relieved I have access again. It's a bit of a relief, honestly.
