Need Help Upgrading My Old Windows 7 PC?

Hey everyone! I recently got my gaming PC back that I had in 2021, and I discovered it's still running Windows 7. I know Steam doesn't support it anymore, so I'm a bit lost on how to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11. I'm not very tech-savvy, and I could really use some guidance on where to start and what the best upgrade path would be. Thanks for any help!

If your system is from 2021 and was running Windows 7, upgrading to Windows 11 can be rough because of hardware requirements. I’d recommend first trying to install Windows 10. If that doesn't work out, then it might be time to think about new hardware or a different solution.

The approach I would take is to try to get a flash drive set up with the Media Creation Tool. Boot from that drive to install Windows 10, and if all goes well, you can preserve your files. If you run into issues, consider an SSD upgrade too; it can help improve the system's performance.

Windows 10 has support until next year, but yeah, upgrades can be tricky. If you're looking at Windows 11, definitely run a compatibility check first. If your PC struggles to meet the specs, that may be an issue. Also, you can use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to create a flash drive installer, which could help you preserve your files.

It's important to upgrade since Windows 7 isn't supported anymore! I'd suggest going straight to Windows 11 if your hardware can handle it. Make sure to check the system requirements on Microsoft's site. If your PC can't run Windows 11, you might need to stick with Windows 10 for now since it's also heading toward end-of-life soon.
