I'm currently gaming on an old HDD, and the long loading times are driving me nuts! With many games now requiring an SSD, I know it's time to upgrade. I'm specifically looking for a 2TB SSD, but when I browse on Amazon, I'm totally overwhelmed. I see standard SSDs around 550MB/s and some slimmer ones boasting speeds over 2500MB/s. My boot drive is one of those slim types, and I have only one port available. What are the key differences between these two types of SSDs? Is there an adapter to connect the slimmer ones, or is the speed difference negligible? Also, if anyone could recommend a solid SSD, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

You're mixing up the M.2 NVMe PCIe SSDs with the SATA SSDs in a 2.5" form. Both types work, but SATA is much slower compared to PCIe, which is where the bigger speeds come from. Quality varies as well; the latest is Gen5, but Gen4 is more common right now. If you want that speed boost, consider getting a PCIe adapter for NVMe drives, especially if you only have one slot. Even a SATA SSD will give you a significant improvement, so it depends on your budget.
Thanks for that info! I just found out there's a second M.2 slot beneath my graphics card, so I might go for one of those faster SSDs.
