Options for Replacing a Dead Motherboard: DDR4 or DDR5?

I have a system with an Intel i7-12700K and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm reusing my RX 9070 XT GPU, a 1000W PSU, case, and SSD, but my motherboard has died. I'm considering a few options:

1) Should I just replace the motherboard with another DDR4 board so I can continue using my existing RAM?
2) Would it be worth upgrading to a motherboard that supports DDR5 and getting new RAM as well?
3) Or should I go for a full upgrade including the CPU, motherboard, and buying DDR5?

I mainly do a mix of productivity tasks, game development, playing games, and using Blender and emulators. I've already pre-ordered a kit of DDR5 RAM in case I want to go that route, but I'm not super impressed with the CPU upgrade options available for my current 12700K. I'm looking at a few bundles from Micro Center, like the 265K or 9700X, but they don't seem like a significant upgrade and I'm concerned that the 265K might not have future socket compatibility. Is upgrading to DDR5 worth it for real-world performance improvements? I'm not really factoring in the resale value of my 12700K since I might use it in a build for a family member later.

I say go for the full upgrade if your budget allows! Upgrading to a DDR5 motherboard would future-proof your system a bit, especially since you already have DDR5 RAM on order. The performance gains from DDR5 can be noticeable in certain applications, especially those that leverage faster memory. Plus, you’ll get to keep your system relevant for longer without having to upgrade again soon. Check for some decent CL36 sticks if you want to save a bit on RAM costs!

Yeah, I’ve seen DDR5 kits drop to around $180 for 32GB lately. It could make the total upgrade cost around $280 including a cheap motherboard, which isn't too bad.

Just be careful with the 265K; it might not have many future generations to upgrade to on that socket. You want to make sure your investment lasts!
