Problems Booting Windows Server 2025 After Latest Updates

Hey everyone! I have a couple of Windows Server 2025 machines running on older hardware (specifically, Microserver G8) and they're both BitLocker encrypted. Until today, everything was running smoothly, but after installing the latest updates (KB5065426 and KB5064401) from yesterday's Patch Tuesday, both servers are stuck in a reboot loop. They keep asking for the BitLocker unlock key, and even when I enter it correctly, they just restart and prompt for the key again after POST. I checked the server logs and everything seems fine, but they won't boot. It looks like the problem stems from KB5065426, which was supposed to fix issues with BitLocker. I found a workaround to get around the boot loop, but I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else is facing similar issues or has suggestions. If it helps, here's the workaround: 1. Enter the unlock key, 2. If you're stuck in a loop, press ESCAPE twice to enter the recovery mode, 3. Enter the unlock key once more and select Continue to boot normally after the next reboot. Just a heads-up, the server will revert to asking for the key after you reboot again. Besides this, I'm considering uninstalling the updates or pausing them until further notices. Let me know if you've encountered this too!

Sounds like you're having a rough time with these updates! It may help to check the Microsoft forums; I’ve noticed some people mentioning temporary fixes that worked for them before the official patches come out. And hey, at least you figured out a workaround before going for a full reinstall!

Yeah, I was really close to that reinstall! I’ll look into the forums you mentioned for some extra insights.

I think you're not the only one dealing with this issue! I’ve read reports of similar problems after the latest updates, especially on older machines. It's such a pain when things get shaky after updates, right? Your workaround seems effective; I’d recommend sticking with it until Microsoft releases a patch that really addresses the underlying problem. In the meantime, you could consider backing up your important data just in case things got worse!

Totally agree! I had to run a full backup after my last update ordeal, just to be safe. Let’s hope for a quick fix because these update-induced headaches are becoming a trend.
