Questions About Building a PC with the 5090

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on building a PC with the 5090. I have a few questions:

1. What precautions can I take regarding potential connector issues? Should I look into aftermarket options or use specific wires?

2. Is upgrading to a 9800X3D worth it compared to sticking with a 7800X3D for my gaming needs?

3. Is the 5090 really worth it? I mean, I get that it's pretty expensive with prices starting around 2.9k, so it probably isn't the best value. Could I achieve similar performance with something like a 9070XT or a 5080/5070Ti, and potentially save 1-2k? I primarily play AAA games (like Expedition 33, Indiana Jones, GTA6, Warzone) but I won't play every single one. I enjoy a lot of Rocket League too, which I'm aware can run on just about anything.

For context, I play on a 43 inch OLED C3 as my main monitor, along with a couple of other monitors (a cheap Spectre vertical setup and an Alienware 38UW). My main uses are gaming, regular PC tasks, and using my PC to play guitar through amp sims. I have a VR headset (Meta Quest 2) but don't use it that often, though it's cool for the occasional racing sim.

EDIT: Money isn't a huge concern, but the goal is to spend less for similar performance. The 32GB VRAM of the 5090 is appealing since it seems like a solid investment for the future of gaming, especially with my current 3080ti starting to show some glitches on my side monitors.

If you’re going for the 5090, definitely pair it with the 9800X3D. The 5090 is a beast, and you don’t want to feel like you’re underperforming the card with a lesser processor. Other cards might struggle a bit more over time, especially with that large monitor you have.

I totally agree! I’m not looking for max settings at 4K, but I don't want my setup to lag in a few years either. It seems like splurging a bit now might pay off later.
