Quick Tips for Testing a High-End Used PC Before Buying

Hey everyone! I'm meeting a seller tomorrow who's offering a 2-month-old high-end build that includes some solid specs like a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Gigabyte RTX 5080, and more. They're all still under warranty, and the seller seems reliable. We'll be testing the system at his grandparents' house using their TV. I've got about 10 minutes for testing. What specific tests should I run? I plan to do a visual check and power it on, but should I include stress tests or temperature monitoring in such a short time?

Running OCCT sounds like a solid plan! Just ensure you have all options checked. It’s actually a good sign the seller showed you that the power-on time is low; it suggests it hasn't been heavily used. Just keep it brief to avoid looking overly suspicious while you test!

I’d recommend checking the BIOS first to confirm all components are recognized and monitoring temps there. Then if you can, try an OCCT test for the CPU and RAM, and stress the PSU as well. You could also run a short 5-minute CrystalDiskMark test on the SSD to check the read/write speeds.

You might want to load CPU-Z or GPU-Z on a USB drive to verify that all the parts match what’s advertised. Just a quick way to make sure everything’s legit.

A quick stability or stress test can be helpful. Maybe run something like Aida64 Extreme for about 5-10 minutes to check stability across all components. If it runs without crashes or artifacts, you're probably in good shape.
