Hey everyone! I'm looking to build a new PC since my current setup with an i7 8700 and a GTX 1080 has been struggling to keep up with my needs. I regularly use my computer for both gaming and work, spending around 40% of my time gaming and the remaining 60% on productivity tasks like Photoshop and simple video editing in Premiere.
For my new build, I'm considering 32GB of 6000MHz RAM, an RTX 5070 for the GPU, and I'm torn between the Ryzen 9 9800X3D and the 7800X3D for the CPU. Given that I don't upgrade often and this will be a sizable investment, I'm wondering if it's worth the extra cost for the 9800X3D or if the 7800X3D would be sufficient for my work and gaming needs. Looking forward to your thoughts and any advice you might have. Thanks!

You're definitely moving up from that old setup! Honestly, anything you get now will be a huge upgrade. If you're looking at the 9800X3D, it is fantastic, but it might be overkill since you mentioned you don't strictly focus on gaming. A Ryzen 7 9700X paired with the RTX 5070 would be a solid combo and save you some cash too. Just make sure it's all within your budget!
Since you aren't solely focused on gaming, I'd recommend considering the Ryzen 7 9700X or 9900X instead of going all out for the 9800X3D. For light video editing and Photoshop, you should be just fine with a 9600X if you're mainly using one app at a time. Don't overthink it!
What's your complete parts list? I think it’ll help us give better suggestions. Based on what you shared, your initial choices seem solid, but you might have some flexibility in your budget depending on what you choose. If you can, post your whole build and let's see how we can optimize it!
Here’s the full build I had in mind:
• GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5070 Blackwell Windforce OC SFF 12G (€570)
• CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D (€497) or 7800X3D (€380)
• RAM: 2x 16GB 6000MHz CL36 (€100)
• Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 (€160) or MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi (€160)
• PSU: MSI MPG A850G 850W 80+ Gold (€110)
• Water Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 A-RGB (€110)
• SSD: WD Black SN7100 1TB (€72)
• Case: Corsair 4000D RS (€118)
My budget is around €1750, but I can go lower if possible!
