Red LED on My New CPU: What Should I Do?

I just got a new MAG X670E motherboard and a Ryzen 9950X CPU, and I'm trying to set it up. I hooked up a 750W power supply to the motherboard and slotted in the CPU. However, the debug LED for the CPU is red, and the motherboard shuts down automatically after about 30 seconds. Since it only lasts for 30 seconds, I don't think the cooler being absent is the issue. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Without RAM, the system can’t properly configure the FCLK, which might be why you're getting that red LED. Plus, running it without a cooler is a definite no-go, as it could hit dangerously high temperatures and shut down to prevent CPU damage. Maintaining proper pressure from the cooler is also important for the CPU's pin connection. In short, you need RAM and a cooler to avoid these issues.

Is there anything else I might be missing besides RAM and the cooler?

Yeah, definitely don’t try running it without a cooler again. It can cause long-term damage!

It looks like your PC is shutting down to prevent any damage to the CPU. You definitely need a CPU cooler, even if it's only running for a short time. Also, since you're using a 9000 series CPU with an X670E motherboard, make sure the BIOS is updated because it was released after your CPU. It could help with compatibility issues.

So, the motherboard will shut off to protect itself even for a short run? That’s good to know!

Yeah, the packaging does say it's ready for Ryzen 9000 series, so I guess it helps to make sure everything is up to date.
